ABOUT

"I am an expressionistic painter living in South Portland, Maine. I love spending time outdoors and many of my creations are inspired by the colors of nature."

"The canvas becomes my palette and the feel of the consistency, the mixing of oil paints and the application give me as much satisfaction..."

My mother’s deep admiration for art and my father’s insatiable passion for nature created a home filled with paintings and artifacts from all over the world. This was an ideal space for me to deepen and develop my creative yearnings from very early on. I chose an apprenticeship in gilding after graduating high school.

I eventually moved from working with gold and silverleaf to experimenting with oil painting. I began by using various paint brushes, but the palette knife gave and continues to give me the most gratification, as I can apply larger amounts of paint to cover the canvas and achieve the texture I desire. The canvas becomes my palette and the feel of the consistency, the mixing of oil paints and the application give me as much satisfaction as the finished piece itself. Bold paint strokes intensify my work.

Music is also an important part of my painting process. I paint along to rhythms that weave their way through my compositions. In all of my work, I seek a unification of color and shape that creates a spiritual sense of harmony.

After finishing my apprenticeship in gilding in Europe, I settled in Winthrop, Massachusetts in 1996. During my time ten years as a professional gilder, I restored and renovated antique furniture, various art objects, as well as numerous picture frames. I worked on picture frame restoration for the Peabody Essex Museum and the Boston Athenaeum. Additionally, I worked on projects for art dealers, galleries, private collectors and interior designers. I also established a residential painting business which I have been running for over 20 years.

I moved to Maine in 2006, where I still enjoy enhancing homes throughout New England in my work and continue to strive for a balance between being a skilled artisan and my passion for creating art.
